Fulton’s Farms was founded in 1954 as a small 40-acre farm and has grown to be over 2000 acres of vegetables and small fruits. William D. Fulton turned his American dream into a reality when he founded this farm with his family. William was an innovator of the u-pick approach to marking strawberries, which lead him to be one of the largest growers of strawberries on the east side of the Mississippi river and helping found The North American Strawberry Growers Association. He also paved the way on the processes of hydro-cooling sweet corn, using the 1 PM program to minimize pesticide, and no till farming techniques. Being an Ohio State graduate, he has earned a place in the Ohio Agriculture Hall of Fame for his contributions to farming across the country. Not to mention William and his wife Joyce being local legends for being two of the main founders of the world-famous Troy strawberry festival. Together they have ran Fulton’s for 61 years and their strong farmer DNA runs deep in the Fulton blood still to this day. Their sons and grandsons are now running Fulton Farms and continuing to pave the road forward in agricultural advancement and community outreach. Men who are fueled by their rich farming heritage back to when their ancestors grew potatoes in the green fields of Ireland or the great Fulton’s who farmed the sweetest sugar cane in the mountains of Cuba in the 30s. A farm built on the back of a family who never quiets and continues to leave their mark on the way we farm.
Fulton’s is not only about the fields; The Farm Market houses the retail side of Fulton Farms. Located in a barn over 100 years old that is an excellent example of constructions techniques from the 19th century, the Market features produce grown on the farm. Asparagus, rhubarb, lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, strawberries, corn, green beans, peas, onions, zucchini, summer squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, broccoli, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins, fall squash and raspberries are among the selections fresh from our fields. In addition to our fresh produce, we also offer a wide selection of canned items including popular favorites like raspberry jam, strawberry jam, orange marmalade, apple butter and pickles to boysenberry jam, elderberry jam, pickled garlic, and pickled jalapeno peppers. There is also a wide selection of preserves with no added sugar in flavors like peach, pear, strawberry, blueberry and raspberry. Hot, medium and mild salsas, marinades, grilling sauces and steak sauce join salad dressings and mustards in shopping carts.
One man’s dream has led to the creation of a thriving local family run farming legacy that has a little bit of everything. A farm where no matter your age, background, or likes they offer something that you will like. The Fultons have proved that with family and hard work anything is possible, a value that still to this day the next generations of Fultons show. Showing their community and the world that no matter what happens the American dream will never die as long as there are Fultons. Fulton Farms will forever be one family’s dream to make this world a little better by putting smiles on happy peoples face and advancing agriculture to make it better.
